Wyse
Unveils Smart Card Integration With Thin Clients
at HIMSS Show
New Smart Card Add-On Makes it
Easier for Healthcare Organizations to Secure Access
to Shared Workstations and Protect Patient Data
NEW ORLEANS, LA. – 02/26/2007 -
Wyse Technology, the global leader in thin computing,
today demonstrated its new SecureSC add-on for healthcare
organizations looking to secure access to shared
workstations while protecting patient data at the
Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society
(HIMSS) conference.
Wyse SecureSC add-on integrates
with Citrix Password Manager(TM) and .NET smart
card technology from Gemalto into the company's
Microsoft Windows XPe thin clients, allowing healthcare
workers to swiftly and securely access vital information
without compromising on security. The add-on provides
users with a secure single sign-on system for Microsoft
Windows, Web-based and hosted applications while
supporting the most popular ISO 7816 Class A and
AB smart card standards. The new smart card add-on
will be commercially available through Wyse channel
partners in Q2 of 2007.
By combining Wyse thin clients
with Citrix Password Manager(TM) and its Hot Desktop
feature, healthcare organizations can safeguard
shared workstations environments from security risks
while streamlining information access utilizing
authentication and audit controls. In addition,
the new security add-on works with Citrix SmoothRoaming(TM)
technology which further enhances productivity by
allowing users' sessions to move with them from
one workstation to the next.
"This new combined solution
from Wyse and Citrix will make it easier for healthcare
organizations to comply with HIPAA and other industry
regulations," said Mick Hollison, Citrix Vice-President
for Desktop Delivery. "The integration of Wyse
thin computing clients with our Password Manager
and other key features gives users rapid access
to shared workstations with secure access for accountability
and the protection of patient data. This new product
offering puts Wyse at the forefront of innovative
IT healthcare solutions."
With Wyse SecureSC the whole process
of logging on, logging out, managing password changes
is easily controlled. Healthcare professionals simply
swipe their smart card, type in a PIN, and they'll
be up and running in seconds. Wyse Technology also
supports integrated, keyboard and standalone smart
card readers across its product line providing customers
with even more flexibility.
"HIPAA legislation places
strict controls on access to patient information,"
said Anthony Armenta, VP of Product Management for
Wyse Technology. "Our thin client integration
with Citrix and Gemalto gives users flexible and
dynamic access to information without compromising
patient care or data. It also showcases our expertise
and ability to provide real-time access to information
in this key vertical market."
This announcement also further
strengthens the existing partnership between Wyse
and Citrix. Earlier this year, Wyse announced its
support of the Citrix Ready(TM) Initiative, which
is designed to help customers identify the best
third-party solutions that add the greatest value
in Citrix driven environments.
