Technology Outlines Strategy and Product Roadmap
for Fastest, Thinnest and Safest Thin Computing
Operating System: Wyse Thin OS
Secure
Wyse Thin OS Provides Full "PC" Experience
with a "Zero-Management" Model for Any
Desktop Virtualization Environment
SAN JOSE, Calif. – 04/23/2007 -
With well over a million thin client users already
enjoying the benefits of the Wyse Thin OS, Wyse
Technology, today announced plans to upgrade its
flagship operating system. Wyse will introduce new
features and functionality to close the “end-user
experience gap” between PCs and thin computers,
on its innovative OS without compromising the security,
manageability or blazing speed.
Recently showcased at DEMO 2007
in January, Wyse Thin OS is the smallest, fastest
and most secure purpose-built operating system for
thin computing. With a boot time of less than 5
seconds, and built-in support for Microsoft®
Terminal Server, Citrix® Application Delivery
and VMware® Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI)
architectures, Wyse Thin OS leads the industry in
performance, and flexibility when it comes to server-centric
desktop and application virtualization.
Wyse has listened to the thin computing
community by adding more desktop flexibility and
performance to Wyse Thin OS while maintaining its
rock solid security. The next version of the Wyse
Thin OS, due out later this quarter, will include
support for more hardware platforms, a dual monitor
solution, improved graphical capabilities and USB
mass storage support.
"We’ve invested heavily in
Wyse Thin OS because it really sets us apart from
everyone else in the thin computing market,” said
Tarkan Maner, President and CEO of Wyse Technology.
“For starters, it enhances application and desktop
virtualization across all major platforms, including
built-in support for VMware, Citrix and Microsoft.
Plus, Wyse Thin OS gives users unprecedented speed
and performance resulting in a robust ‘PC experience’
on a thin client.”
Other features to be added include
more secure and flexible wireless functionality,
as well as increased security around authentication
mechanisms. In addition, Wyse Thin OS will include
several new breakthrough features including secure
dynamic provisioning of the operating system to
a variety of device types delivering a richer experience
for the user.
At less than two megabytes in size
and with blazing fast performance on even a low-cost
processor, Wyse Thin OS gives hardware manufacturers
the ability to create lightweight and high-performance
thin-computing solutions for a variety of new markets.
“The Wyse Thin OS delivers a fast,
robust and versatile operating system for thin computing
that meets the demanding IT needs of our enterprise
customers,” said Ken Hertzler-Walters, Director
of Virtual PC Center at NEC Corporation of America.
“As a technology partner, NEC specifically selected
the Wyse Thin OS to power our new NEC US100 thin
client device, which is a key part of our overall
virtualized PC solution.”
Wyse Thin OS provides thin-client
users with a simple solution that delivers big on
performance, management and security. It delivers
twice the typical screen drawing performance per
CPU cycle as other options, utilizes a “zero-management”
model that provides for self-management, reducing
the need for additional management software. Just
as important, Wyse Thin OS is one of the most secure
thin-client operating systems, as it does not have
a published API, making it far more difficult for
hackers to target.
